Didcot Choral Society

We are a mixed voice choir, recently grown in number to around 70 singers, drawn from Didcot and surrounding towns and villages. We have worked with a number of local groups and orchestras, and have a close relationship with the Isis Chamber Orchestra. We perform a wide range of music throughout the year and we are committed to contributing to the musical and cultural life of the area. Our current Musical Director is Robert Legg.

Recent performances have included: Handel Messiah and Dixit Dominus, Purcell Dido and Aeneas and Fairy Queen, Faure Requiem, Coleridge-Taylor Hiawatha's Wedding Feast, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Vaughan-Williams Dona Nobis Pacem, Mozart Requiem, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Bach Cantata no 79 Gott, Der Herr, ist Sonn und Schild and 140 Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme and Buxtehude Magnificat. In 2005 we commissioned and performed a new work by local composer Debbie Rose – Bernadette of Lourdes.

The Society was founded in 1958, and in 2008 we will celebrate our Golden Jubilee. Plans are underway to celebrate this auspicious occasion in suitable style, with events involving the whole community – watch this space for more information

“GOLDEN DAYS”

Didcot Choral Society celebrate their golden jubilee with a summer concert in the presence of old and new members and some special guests.

Didcot Choral Society celebrate their 50th anniversary with a feast of music to delight all musical tastes, including Michael Tippett’s poignant and moving Spirituals from “A Child of Our Time” and other more light-hearted works.

The concert will take place Saturday 14th June 2008 at 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church, Newlands Avenue, Didcot, and will be followed by a Pimms reception. Tickets are priced at Ł7 each (free admission to accompanied children) available on the door, from the Didcot One Stop Shop or by calling 01235 810349.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings during term time, in St Peter’s Church, Newlands Avenue in Didcot from 7.30-9.30pm. We are always looking for enthusiastic singers to join us. There is no audition and sight reading is not a necessity. Please come along and join us – you will be made most welcome.
